Privacy Policy
Sakaba is a home-bar app for iPhone and iPad: a cocktail recipe library, guided mixing and a personal tasting journal. This policy explains what data the app and this website handle, why, and what control you have over it. It describes what Sakaba actually does. If something isn’t mentioned here, Sakaba doesn’t do it.
1. Who We Are
Sakaba is made and run by an independent developer (“we”, “us”, “our”). We are the data controller for the limited processing described in this policy. For any privacy question or request, write to sakabaapp@proton.me.
2. The Short Version
- No account. There is no sign-up, password or profile on any server of ours.
- Your content is yours. Everything you create stays on your device and, if iCloud is on, in your own private iCloud storage. We have no server that stores it and cannot see it.
- No ads, no tracking. The app contains no advertising, tracking or crash-reporting code and never uses an advertising identifier.
- One outside service. Apple handles purchases and iCloud. RevenueCat receives purchase records so we can see how subscriptions are doing (Section 5). That is all.
- Nothing sold. We never sell or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
3. What the App Handles
Content you create. Your own recipes, tasting notes (rating, text, date, photo and the recipe as you poured it), favorites, and your bar and shopping list. It is stored on your device. If iCloud is on for Sakaba, it syncs between your devices through your private iCloud account (Apple’s CloudKit and iCloud key-value storage). We never receive a copy.
Settings. Your choices of units, theme, language and accent color, and the amounts you adjust on a recipe, stay on the device where you set them.
Photos. You can add a photo to a tasting note or to your own recipe. Taking one for a tasting note asks for camera access at that moment. Choosing one from your library uses Apple’s photo picker, which gives Sakaba only the photo you pick, not access to your library. Both are optional.
Reminders. If you turn on weekend reminders, Sakaba asks for permission to send notifications. They are scheduled on your device by iOS; no server of ours sends them.
Siri, Shortcuts, Spotlight and the widget. Sakaba lets iOS index recipes for Spotlight and offers Siri and Shortcuts actions. The widget reads a small snapshot (the cocktail of the day: its name, a short description and a picture) from a container shared only between the app and the widget. All of this stays on your device and is handled by iOS.
Backups and exports. When you export a backup or your journal, Sakaba creates a file and hands it to you. Where it goes next (Files, AirDrop, email) is your choice. We never receive it.
Purchases. Apple processes every purchase through the App Store. We never see your name, Apple ID or payment details. See Section 5 for what RevenueCat receives.
What the app does not collect. Your name, email address, location, contacts, browsing history or advertising identifier. The app sets no cookies and does no tracking or fingerprinting.
4. The Website
This website (its pages, blog and Help Center) is a static site hosted by Cloudflare.
- Server data. Like any website, Cloudflare receives the technical data of each request (IP address, browser, page requested) to deliver the page and protect the site from abuse. We don’t use it to identify you.
- No cookies, no analytics. The website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising scripts. If that ever changes, we will update this policy first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
- Your language choice. If you pick a language, your browser remembers it in its local storage on your device. It is never sent to us.
- Links out. Download buttons lead to Apple’s App Store, which has its own privacy policy.
5. Who Else Is Involved
Apple runs the App Store, processes purchases and hosts your iCloud data. See Apple’s privacy policy.
RevenueCat, Inc. helps us understand subscriptions. Sakaba includes RevenueCat’s software in “observer” mode: it does not handle purchases, it only reports them. When you buy, renew or cancel, RevenueCat receives the transaction details (which product, price, currency, dates and Apple’s transaction identifiers), a random identifier it creates for your copy of the app, basic device and app information (iOS version, device model, app version, language, App Store country) and, as with any internet connection, your IP address. Apple also notifies RevenueCat of renewals and cancellations. This data isn’t linked to your name or Apple ID and is never used for advertising. See RevenueCat’s privacy policy.
Proton hosts our email. If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you include.
We have no data-sharing arrangement with any advertiser, data broker or analytics company. We disclose information to anyone else only if the law requires it.
6. How Long Data Is Kept
- Your content stays as long as you keep it. Deleting a recipe, note or photo in the app removes it from your device and, once the change syncs, from your iCloud.
- Deleting the app removes its data from that device, but not the copy in your iCloud. To remove that too, open Settings → [your name] → iCloud, go to your iCloud storage, choose Sakaba and delete its data.
- Sync history. To keep devices in sync, the app keeps a short record of recent changes on your device: at least the last seven days, and older entries are cleared once they have synced.
- Purchase records at RevenueCat are kept while we use the service and as long as needed for our financial records.
- Emails are kept as long as needed to answer you and follow up, then deleted.
7. Your Rights
Most of your data is already in your hands: you can view, edit, export or delete everything you create inside the app at any time.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, the UK, Switzerland or California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal data, to object to or restrict its processing, and to withdraw consent. For anything we hold (purchase records at RevenueCat, emails you sent us), write to sakabaapp@proton.me and we will answer within 30 days. Because we never hold your app content or your Apple ID, we may need details from you, such as the date of a purchase, to find a record that is yours.
8. Legal Bases (EEA, UK and Switzerland)
- Purchase records (RevenueCat): our legitimate interest in understanding how Sakaba Plus is doing and keeping accurate financial records (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Emails you send us: our legitimate interest in answering you, or steps you ask for before a purchase (Article 6(1)(b) and (f)).
- Website requests: our legitimate interest in delivering a secure website (Article 6(1)(f)).
Your app content isn’t processed by us at all: it lives on your device and in your iCloud, under your relationship with Apple.
If you believe we have handled your data unlawfully, you have the right to complain to the data protection authority where you live or work.
9. International Transfers
Apple, RevenueCat, Cloudflare and Proton may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where EU, UK or Swiss data is transferred, these providers rely on recognized safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
10. Children
Sakaba is rated 17+ on the App Store and is meant for adults of legal drinking age where they live. It isn’t directed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, write to us and we will delete it.
11. California and Other U.S. States
We don’t sell or share personal information, and we don’t use it for targeted advertising or profiling. If you live in California or another U.S. state with privacy laws, you can make any of the requests in Section 7 by writing to sakabaapp@proton.me. We won’t treat you differently for doing so.
12. Security
Your content is protected by iOS and by Apple’s iCloud (encrypted in transit and at rest, and tied to your Apple ID). Connections to RevenueCat and to this website are encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, but because we never hold your content, there is no Sakaba server holding it that could be breached.
13. Changes to This Policy
If we change this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date above. If a change matters, for example a new feature that sends data off your device, we will say so in the app before it takes effect.
