Siri and Shortcuts

Ask Siri what you can make, get a random cocktail by spirit, open My Bar hands-free, and find recipes from your iPhone’s search.

Sakaba works with Siri and the Shortcuts app out of the box. Ask what your bar can make, get a surprise cocktail, or jump to My Bar without touching the screen. There’s nothing to set up.

What you can say

Say “Hey Siri” or press and hold the side button, then:

Say What happens
“What can I make in Sakaba” or “What cocktails can I make in Sakaba” Siri tells you how many cocktails you can make right now and names up to three of them.
“Random cocktail in Sakaba” or “Surprise me with a cocktail in Sakaba” Sakaba opens on a random recipe.
“Random gin cocktail in Sakaba” Sakaba opens on a random recipe with that base spirit, and Siri says its name.
“Open My Bar in Sakaba” Sakaba opens on the My Bar tab.
“Open favorites in Sakaba” Sakaba opens your Favorites.

For a random cocktail by spirit you can say gin, vodka, whiskey, rum, tequila, mezcal, brandy, cachaça or pisco.

If Siri speaks one of Sakaba’s other languages, use the phrases in that language; each of the 10 has its own.

What counts as “can make”

Siri counts the drinks in the Ready section of My Bar → Cocktails: everything you have all the ingredients for, using only exact swaps. Drinks that need an approximate substitute, or one more bottle, aren’t counted. If you can’t make anything yet, Siri says so and suggests marking the bottles you own in My Bar. See What can I make.

Without Sakaba Plus

Siri stays inside what you can open:

  • What can I make counts only the ready drinks you can open: the free recipes and your own. If none of your ready drinks are free, Siri counts all of them instead.
  • Random cocktail and random by spirit pick from the free recipes and your own, so you never land on a locked recipe.

With Plus, everything in the library counts and can be picked.

Use the Shortcuts app

Open the Shortcuts app and find Sakaba to run these actions with a tap, add them to the Home Screen, or use them in your own shortcuts and automations:

  • What can I make
  • Random cocktail
  • Random cocktail by spirit
  • Open My Bar
  • Open Favorites

What can I make answers without opening Sakaba. The others open the app.

Find recipes in Spotlight

Sakaba adds its recipes to your iPhone’s search. Swipe down on the Home Screen and type a cocktail name or an ingredient, such as “mezcal”, to find matching drinks. Tap one to open its recipe in Sakaba.

  • All 1,000 recipes are included, plus your own. A recipe you create shows up after the next time Sakaba starts.
  • Spotlight lists drinks by their English name and description, whatever language Sakaba is in.
  • Plus recipes are listed too. Without Plus, tapping one shows the Recipe is part of Sakaba Plus card.

Good to know

  • Names are spoken as written. Siri reads cocktail names in their original spelling, such as “Vieux Carré”.
  • Random by spirit uses the base spirit. It picks from drinks filed under that spirit, not every drink that contains it.
